How to create custom keyboard shortcuts for programs in Windows 7

In Windows 7 you can create custom keyboard shortcuts for your favorite programs.

Note: When creating a custom shortcut, make sure you don’t use the default shortcuts built into Windows 7.  Click here for a list of the common default shortcuts.

  1. Right click the program icon.
  2. Click Properties.
  3. On the Shortcut Tab, Click in Shortcut Key.
  4. Hit the keys you want to use as a short cut.  In this example I hit Control + Alt + P.
  5. Click Apply.
  6. If you receive the message access denied click Continue.
  7. Click OK to save the changes.
