How to configure IMAP email in Windows Live Mail

Windows Live Mail is the latest email client from Microsoft and is meant to replace two older programs - Outlook Express and Windows Mail Vista. This tutorial will show you how to configure your email in Windows Live Mail.  

First you need to have the following information ready.
Name of your Incoming/Outgoing Mail Server
Your Full Email Address
Your Email Password
Incoming/Outgoing Server Address and Port Numbers

  1. Open Windows Live Mail.
  2. Click Accounts.
  3. Click Email.
  4. When the add your email accounts window appears enter the following:
    • Email Address
    • Password
    • Remember Password check box is optional.
    • Display name
    • Insert a check mark next to Manually configure server settings.
  5. Click Next.
  6. On the Configure server settings window enter the following:
    • Incoming server information
      • Select Server Type.
      • Type the Server Address and Port.
      • Type the Logon User Name
    • Outgoing server information
      • Type the Server Address and Port.
      • Select "Requires a secure connect (SSL) and/or Requires authentication if your email provider requires this. 
  7. Click Next.
  8. Click Add another email account if you want to configure additional emails. 
  9. Click Finish.
