How to measure your cpu temperature using Real Temp

We found a great tool to measure your cpu's core temperature.  We found two different version widely used by overclockers, gamers, etc.  The programs don't require you to install the application.   It will work on both Windows XP and Windows Vista.  Tell us what temperature your getting on your pc!

  1. Realtemp - Download Realtemp
    Real Temp
  2. CoreTemp - Download Coretemp

My Computers Temp

Sony Laptop
Intel P8400 CPU
Real Temp Idle - Approx 25 Degrees Celcius
Real Temp Full Load - Approx 40 Degrees Celcius
What are you getting on your PC?

computer temp

Intel Quad Core Q6700 2.66GHz (stock clock)
clocked to 3.5GHz
core temp idle - 31 degrees
core temp under load - 45 degrees

thanks admin, I knew of core temp but i'll have to give real temp a try, looks kewl!

Nice!

Hey Flank,

Your welcome! =)  How do you like your quad core?  Do you see a huge difference in performance with your apps and/or games?

quad core

I find that it is much faster than my AMD X2 3800 2.0GHz that I used to have. When I first built my computer for some reason my motherboard had disabled 2 of my 4 cores, and I didn't realize it until I ran 3dmark06 and got a score of around 11,000. Then after figuring out I needed to update some settings in my bios and enabled all 4 cores I got around a 14,000 in 3dmark06. So really when I first ran 3dmark06 I was really getting the perfomance of a dual core processor because 2 of my cores were disabled, so you can see the performance gain with all 4 cores running. Now keep in mind that 3dmark06 is just a benchmark, and may not have as much of an affect on real word performance, but it does seem to load all my applications alot faster than my old dual core. IMO the having a quad core processor opens up alot more bandwidth on your northbridge. Once I had my motherboard running all 4 of my cores and ran 3dmark06 not only did I get a higher CPU score, but it also increased the score of my video card significantly. So I think that any quad core processor is worth it, especially now that the AMD Phenom X4 9600 2.3GHz can be purchased for $119 from newegg. I was able to purchase my processor with a cheap intel mobo and a copy of vista home premium through a special intel purchase program :)
hope this helps you out :)

Here are the specs on my rig

Xilico Wind Tunnel Case
EVGA 780i SLI motherboard
Intel Q6700 3.5GHz
Zalman CNPS 9700 heatsink w/artic silver ceramique
8gigs Mushkin pc6400 ram
EVGA 8800GTS 512MB video card (stock clocks)
WD 500GB HD
PC Power&Cooling 825watt PSU
LITE-ON DVD burner
Vista Home Premium 64bit

Nice Rig!

Hey Flank,

Your rig it pretty nice!  It's making me think about a upgrade LOL....  Your specs made me think of another question.

Are you having any challenges with Windows Vista 64bit?  Some 32bit applications running slower, finding driver support?

Thank You,

thanks

Hey admin, thanks im glad I could help :) as for drivers and software support in vista 64bit finding drivers isn't an issue at all, I only have to go to 3 websites to get my 64bit drivers, nvidia, evga and logitech for my keyboard and mouse. Even computer manufacturers like HP, Dell, Gateway, Toshiba etc... are offering drivers for 64bit vista. All 64bit versions of windows come with a 32bit emulator to run software that was not written for 64bit operating systems. So if a 64bit version of my software is available I will get it, but I do have some 32bit apps installed like nero, av software, aim, 3dmark06, office 07, photoshop just to name a few and I haven't run into any issues at all. I can't really say if any of the 32bit applications that I have run any slower because I've never had a 32bit OS installed on this machine. Also neat lil tip I found out, If you have a valid vista product key, you can install the 64bit version of that and use the same key to activate it. So let me know If I you have any questions about upgrading or building a new rig. If your planning a new rig and you don't play alot of high end pc games then I would definitely get one of the AMD 780/790 motherboard chipsets, they have an onboard video card with vga/dvi/hdmi outputs and they start at $50 and you can also set an amount of your ram to be used as dedicated ram for your onboard video card. My fried did this, he set 2gigs of his ram as video ram and he claims he could run age of conan on medium graphics settings, I never saw it so I can't verify it lol. Here's a pic of my computer when I had my creative xifi extreme gamer sound card and borrowed my buddies 8800GTS 512mb and ran some tests with SLI https://home.comcast.net/~mconchado18/DSC00263.JPG and a link to my fastest 3dmark06 score with the SLI setup 17,533 http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dm06=6156134
