How to Defrag Windows Vista Faster

Power Defragmenter is a free application with an advanced GUI for the Sysinternals core application contig by sysinternals to speed up defragmenting your hard drive. We found this application to defrag alot quicker than the built in Windows Vista Defragmenter. Another great thing about the Power Defragmenter is that you don't need to install it. It will run from the folder you unzip it in.
Contig is a very powerful defragmentation application designed for Windows NT/2000/XP/Vista operating systems.
Contig was created by Mark Russinovich and Bryce Cogswell.
Below are instructions on how to use the application.
- Download Contig from microsoft. Contig Download Link
- Download Power Defragmenter. Power Defragmenter Download Link
- Right Click on the PowerDefragmenter.zip file.
- Click Extract All.

- Select the folder to extract to an click Extract.

- Right Click Contig.zip and click Extract All.

- Click Browse to point the windows to extract the file in the Powerdefragmenter folder.

- Point Windows to extract the file into the Power Defragmenter folder and click OK.

- When your prompted with the copy file window click Copy and Replace. This will replace the original contig file included from Power Defragmenter with the latest version from Microsoft.

- When your prompted with the copy file window click Copy and Replace. This will replace the original EULA text file included from Power Defragmenter with the latest version from Microsoft.

- Go to the Power Defragmenter folder and click PowerDEfragmenter.exe to launch the application.

- If you get the User account control windows click Allow.
- Once the application opens click Next.

- Select Defragment Disk and Click Next.

- Select the hard disk and click Defragment.

- A Command Prompt window will appear and start the defragmenting process.
