Pc Shut down
Hmm a lot of possibilities for that one, have you tried using the new hdd on another ide/sata slot? I suggest making sure the new hdd is working ok first. Try borrowing another hdd for testing. BTW why did you replace the hdd in the first place.
I had the issue with several PCs i have assembled, if memory serves me right, one was due to power supply issues, the PSU was conking out had that replaced and it went away. Another was solved by disassembling and reassimbling the whole PC, ( not sure may something was loose somewhere). I think bad memory could cause that as well ( this was for a friend. If all else fails i usually reformat the hdd and that seems to work.
But these days i dont get that problem anymore.

Re PC shut down
Sorry for the long delay in responding to your most helpful suggestions. Seems the issue that was causing the shut downs was a loose memory stick. Its been 2 weeks now since that was corrected awnd the PC has not shut down since.
However am noticing now that the PC is very slow. I have cleared the cache deleted un-essencial progamms but tthe results are the same, slow booting up and accessing sites.
I have 2GB memory and a 350GB hard drive. Any suggestions on how I can make this PC work any faster?
